Tronic Mercury E27 Bulb, 400 Watts

Our review

This is a 400-watt mercury vapour lamp from Tronic, fitted with the standard E27 screw base. It is a high-intensity bulb that throws out a large amount of light, the kind of output you normally associate with street lighting and security floodlights rather than indoor rooms. The glow it gives off is orange-white, produced by metals and gases reacting inside the glass tube, so the colour is noticeably warmer and more amber than a modern white LED. It suits someone maintaining an existing mercury fixture, perhaps on a compound wall, gatepost or yard pole, where the fitting already takes this lamp type. Before buying, check that your fixture is rated for 400 watts and uses an E27 socket, and think about whether the warm orange tone and warm-up time work for your setup. Compare it with LED and sodium alternatives if running cost or instant brightness matters to you. Available on Sokonia.
