Tronic 4 Way Extension with Smart Protect

Our review

This is a four-way extension lead from Tronic, sold under the name Smart Protect. In plain terms, it is a length of flexible power cable with a plug on one end and four sockets on the other, so you can run several devices from a single wall outlet. The Smart Protect name suggests the unit includes some form of protection circuitry, though the listing does not spell out what that covers, so it is worth confirming the details on the Sokonia page before you commit. It suits anyone who has run out of sockets in a room, such as a desk setup with a computer, monitor, charger and lamp, or a TV corner with a decoder and router. Before buying, check the plug and socket type matches what you use locally, and look at the cable length and current rating, since those determine whether it reaches where you need it and whether it can carry the load of your appliances. Compare it with a basic four-way extension without protection, and with surge-protected strips, which usually cost more but may matter if you are plugging in sensitive electronics. If your devices are low-power and you simply need more outlets, a straightforward lead may be enough. If you are protecting expensive equipment, the protection element is the part worth understanding first. Available on Sokonia.
