Tefal Perfect Bake Baking Tray 18cm Nonstick Aluminium J5546402

Our review

This is a small, round baking tin from Tefal's Perfect Bake range, listed as the Charlotte mould, model J5546402. At 18cm across, it is sized for a single layer cake, a small charlotte, a deep quiche or individual bakes rather than a full family sheet cake. The body is aluminium, which is the material most bakers prefer for cakes because it conducts heat quickly and spreads it evenly, and the nonstick coating is there to make release cleaner and washing quicker. Tefal also lists it as dishwasher safe, though hand washing tends to keep a nonstick surface in better condition over time. Before buying, check that 18cm matches the recipe you have in mind, since tins of this diameter vary in depth and a shallow tin will not hold a tall batter. Compare it with other round tins of the same size on material, coating quality and whether the base is fixed or loose, as a loose base helps with delicate cakes. It is available on Sokonia.
