Sony HT-X8500 2.1ch Soundbar with Dolby Atmos and Built-In Subwoofer

Our review

This is a slim, low-profile soundbar from Sony that handles Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, using a Vertical Sound Engine to push height effects upward and a processing mode that upscales ordinary audio close to 7.1.2 channels. Because the subwoofers are built into the bar rather than sitting in a separate box, it suits rooms where floor space is tight or where a wireless sub would be awkward, and it pairs well with a wall-mounted TV. Seven sound modes and a voice enhancement setting let you tune dialogue and effects for films, sport or series. Before buying, measure the space under your TV and think about whether you want a separate subwoofer for deeper bass, since that is the main trade-off against 2.1 systems with an external sub. Also compare connectivity and HDMI passthrough on rival bars, as those details are not listed here. Available on Sokonia.
