Tronic Up and Down Silver Cylindrical Wall Light, IP44 Outdoor

Our review

This Tronic fitting is a cylindrical wall-mounted light in silver, designed to cast light both upward and downward rather than straight out. Because it is built for outdoor use and carries an IP44 rating, it is approved for external installation, and the construction is described as strong and weatherproof. It suits someone lighting a doorway, gate pillar, courtyard wall or veranda who wants a defined pool of light above and below the fixture instead of a wide wash. Before buying, confirm your wall can take a surface-mounted fitting and that your wiring is already in place, since no specifications are listed here. Compare it with bulkhead lights, which spread light more evenly, and with single-direction spots, which are more focused. Up-and-down designs like this one are mainly about the visual effect they create on the wall, so think about how high you will mount it and whether the beam pattern suits the surface behind it.
