Sony XS-FB131E 13cm Dual Cone Car Speaker, 230W Peak

Our review

This is a 13cm (5 1/4 inch) Sony car speaker built around a dual cone design, with an aramid carbon fibre matrix woofer that Sony says delivers rich bass and clear vocals. The quoted figures are 230W peak and 35W RMS, with a frequency range of 50–21,000Hz, so it is a modest, drop-in style speaker rather than a component set with a separate tweeter. It suits drivers replacing tired factory speakers in older cars, vans or small hatchbacks where a simple swap is wanted and the existing openings are already 13cm. Before buying, measure your current speaker mounts and check depth and screw hole spacing, since a 13cm frame does not fit every door or parcel shelf. Also confirm how much clean power your head unit or amp provides; the RMS rating matters more than the peak number. Compared with similarly priced coaxial speakers, the dual cone approach can help vocal clarity, but a proper two-way coaxial with a separate tweeter may image better. Available on Sokonia.
