Sony HT-S40R 5.1ch Home Cinema System with Wireless Rear Speakers

Our review

The Sony HT-S40R is a 5.1-channel home cinema system built around 600W of real surround sound, with wireless rear speakers that save you running cables across the room. It handles Dolby Digital audio and supports Bluetooth for streaming music from a phone or tablet. Setup is straightforward through HDMI ARC, optical, or analogue inputs, so it works with most TVs and older gear. It suits renters or anyone with a living room where trailing speaker wire is a problem, and it is a sensible step up from a basic soundbar if you want proper rear-channel effects. Before buying, check that your TV has HDMI ARC or an optical output, and measure where the rear speakers will sit, since wireless means they still need power. Compare it with soundbars that fake surround from a single bar, and with 5.1 systems that use wired rears. Available on Sokonia.
