This is a four-gang, two-way switch from Tronic, finished in black and made from bakelite. Four gangs means one plate controls four separate lighting circuits, and the two-way function lets each of those circuits be switched from a second position as well, which is why this type is common on staircases, in corridors and in rooms with more than one entrance. The 90mm by 90mm face and smooth edges give it a plain, modern look that sits well in homes and offices. Before ordering, confirm your wiring supports two-way switching, check that your back box and mounting holes match a 90mm square plate, and make sure the circuit is 220-240V AC. Compare against plastic-bodied switches if heat resistance matters to you, and against one-gang or three-gang versions if you do not need four controls on one plate.
