Bakelite is a hard, heat-resistant material, so it holds up well near a bulb, though it is brittle if dropped or overtightened. Before buying, check that your bulb has a standard E27 screw cap, not a bayonet or small Edison fitting, and confirm your supply matches the stated voltage range. You will also need a shade, cord and ceiling rose separately, since this is the holder only.
