Because it sits on the ceiling rather than being recessed into it, it suits rooms where you cannot or would rather not cut into the ceiling, such as rented homes, concrete slabs, or spaces with shallow voids above. It is also a practical choice if you want the option to change the bulb later rather than replace a whole integrated unit.
The important thing to understand is what you are actually buying. This is a bulb holder, not a complete LED light. You will need to buy a GU10 bulb and a bulb connector separately, so factor those into your budget and your plans before ordering. Check the base type of any GU10 bulbs you already own, and confirm the connector you choose matches the fitting.
