Tronic Metal Clad 1 Gang 2 Way Switch with Back Box

Our review

This is a single gang, two way switch from Tronic, housed in a metal clad enclosure rather than the plastic face you would find on a standard domestic switch. The two way configuration means it can be used at one end of a circuit where the same light is controlled from two positions, which is common on stairwells, long corridors and workshop bays. The metal housing is the main point of difference. Tronic describes it as constructed from heavy gauge and durable materials, aimed at high traffic commercial and industrial settings such as factories, workshops, sheds and garages where impact damage may occur. A back box is included, so you are not hunting for a matching enclosure separately. Before buying, check the wiring arrangement at the point of installation and confirm whether you need one way or two way switching, since the two are not interchangeable in every setup. Also consider the surface you are mounting to and whether a metal clad accessory suits the surrounding fittings. Compared with a plain plastic switch, this type trades a lower price and lighter look for resistance to knocks and rough handling, which matters more in a garage or shed than in a bedroom. If the location sees tools, equipment or general wear, the metal face is the sensible choice. Available on Sokonia.
