Tronic Top Plug 15Amps Transparent Bakelite Plug

Our review

The Tronic Top Plug is a rewirable plug made from Bakelite, the hard, heat-resistant material long used for electrical fittings, and it comes in a transparent finish so you can see the wiring inside once assembled. Tronic rates it for 220 to 240 volts AC, which matches typical Tanzanian mains supply, and it carries a one-year warranty. It suits anyone replacing a cracked or loose plug on a lamp, extension lead or small appliance, or wiring a new lead from scratch. Before buying, check the cable you intend to use fits the plug's terminals and cord grip, and confirm the appliance's current draw is within the plug's rating. Note that the listing title says 15Amps while the specification text says 13Amps, so verify the rating with the seller if your appliance draws close to either figure. Compare against other Bakelite or rubber plugs on terminal quality, screw tightness and whether the cover clips on securely, since a poor cord grip is the usual failure point. A transparent body helps you confirm the wires are seated correctly before you close it up.
