Tronic Bed Switch Square 6A 1 Gang In-Line Cord Switch

Our review

This is a single-gang in-line cord switch from Tronic, rated 6A and shaped as a square. It sits on the cord itself rather than in a wall plate, so it is the type of switch you add to a lamp or small appliance that either has no switch of its own or whose switch is awkward to reach. The housing is made from tough plastic chosen to resist heat and ageing, which matters because a cord switch lives close to the heat of a bulb fitting and gets handled constantly. It is described for light-duty use, and the examples given are desk lamps, mirror lamps, wall lamps, floor lamps and a fan. That points to the buyer who wants a simple on-off control on a bedside or reading lamp, or who is replacing a cracked or stiff switch on an existing cord. Before ordering, check the current drawn by your appliance against the 6A rating, and confirm the cord diameter fits an in-line switch of this size, since a loose or over-tight fit is the usual reason these fail. Also decide whether you want a square or a slimmer inline shape, and whether a rocker or a rotary action suits where the switch will hang. No specifications beyond the rating are given, so treat the 6A figure as the key number to match. Available on Sokonia.
