Tronic Black Cone-Shaped Wall Light, E27, Cast Aluminium

Our review

This is a cone-shaped outdoor wall light from Tronic, finished in black and built around a cast aluminium body that has been powder coated, with a frosted polycarbonate shade over the lamp. It runs on standard AC 220-240V mains and takes an E27 bulb, so the light output and colour temperature are entirely your choice rather than fixed by the fitting. At 310mm high and 230mm wide it is a reasonably substantial wall piece, which suits gate pillars, front entrances and garage walls where a single lamp needs to read clearly from a distance. Because the shade is frosted, expect a softer, more even glow than a clear glass lantern gives, and less glare at eye level. Before buying, confirm the E27 bulb you intend to use is rated for outdoor or damp conditions, and check that the wall you are mounting to can take the weight of a cast aluminium body at that size. It is worth comparing against slimmer bulkhead lights if your space is tight, or against stainless steel fittings if coastal salt air is a concern, since powder-coated aluminium needs its coating intact to resist corrosion. Also decide whether you want a downward-facing cone for pool of light at a doorway or an upward one for a wash across a wall.
